The ancient Chinese found that our existence is both physical and non-physical, or body and mind/soul/spirit, which correspond to particle and wave, respectively, in physics. The wave, or mind, cannot be seen or detected by instruments, so science knows virtually nothing about the mind.
Moreover, science studies only physical matter, which becomes disorder with time – a behavior called entropy. Since disorder is disease and order is health, entropic matter lacks the ability to sustain order, or health. Western medicine, which relies on material drugs, can never cure any disease.
TCM, in contrast,also studies the mind, a vibrational energy occupying the infinite spiritual space. In contrast to entropic matter, the behavior of mental energy, qi, is negative entropy, or negentropy, meaning it can remains in order, never decays or died.
Put another way, qi is life itself. It has the power to cure disorders and restore health.
According to TCM, the mind controls the body via qi as follows:
Wherever the mind goes, qi follows 意到氣到. This means that qi is the energy of the mind and follows mental commands.
Wherever qi goes, blood follows 氣到血到. Qi is life – the energy that enlivens the body. It provides the heat and pressure to open the capillaries 微絲血管 and enhance blood circulation. A living human is warm because of the qi in the blood.

Qi enters the body via meridians and provides the heat that dilates capillaries to open blood flow. It then circulates with blood to tissues and governs blood cells to heal disorders, just as the soul attaches to the body and commands it to fix physical problems.
