SUICIDE DUE TO
DEPRESSION CAN BE AVOIDED

April 8, 1999
To the Editors of the Orange County Register, Long Beach Press Telegram, Los Angeles
Times
This is in reference to an obituary article by Robin Hinch in the Orange
County Register on March 24, 1999 concerning a 21-year-old aspiring jazz pianist, Rob
Bolinger, who killed himself because of unmitigated depression. My heart cries for the
Bolinger family. Being a parent of three children, I can imagine the heartache and despair
of his parents regarding the suffering of their son, and the fact that no one could do
anything about it.
More depressing is that there are many similar unreported tragedies. Based on
the popularity of Prozac and other antidepressants, it is clear that chronic depression is
a prevalent problem, and those suffering from it are no happier alive than dead.
It is especially frustrating to me as a physician, because I have found an effective cure
for pain, depression, and other degenerative ailments. My therapy is a combination of Eastern and
Western medicine called Neuro-BioEnergetics (NBE). Rob's suicide would have been easily
avoided with
this therapy. This claim can be verified with the ample case histories posted on my web
site www.drtong.com. Below are some examples:
1. Jeff K. was depressed
and frustrated all his life because he never felt happy. Prior to our treatment, Jeff had
tried conventional drugs, psychiatric consultation, group therapy, exercise, religion,
hobbies, and other modalities, all to no avail. Four years ago he took a whole
bottle of Paxil, an antidepressant, in an attempt to kill himself. Fortunately, he
survived because he vomited most of
the drugs. He then saw my television program, and decided to seek my help.
His depression was greatly alleviated with the first NBE treatment. Further
therapies enabled him to become a normal and happy person. Unfortunately, he was forced to
discontinue after 18 treatments because his insurance refused to pay for his therapy.
I appeared with Jeff and another patients, Jacqueline
F., on a national TV show. Jacqueline had a 20-year history of mitral valve prolapse
and panic attacks that often immobilized her. Her son, who had suffered for seven years
from chronic fatigue syndrome and was cured with our NBE therapy, referred her to
us. Jacqueline
was also relieved of her mental and cardiac symptoms. A video containing part of this show
and letters by these patients are posted on my web site.
2. Dan M. is a college
student who was suicidal due to chronic depression that was accompanied by nausea. He was
a prisoner in a world of fears. He was afraid to go out with friends, or even to answer
the phone or talk to his parents. His love for his parents prevented any suicide attempts.
By the time he decided to consult us, he said his desire to die was so
overwhelming that the concern for his parents was no longer a strong enough deterrent.
He had psychiatric counseling and taken various drugs. He has tried acupuncture,
reflexology and all types of Chinese herbs. He has studied many religions, and has tried
meditation, self-examination, enlightenment, a vegetarian diet, and living a sinless life,
all without success.
In contrast, he felt better after one NBE treatment. After a few weeks of therapy, Dan
no longer has anxiety, nausea, or suicidal tendencies. Instead, he now has many moments of
happiness. He is still receiving NBE treatments, and would be glad to share his experience
with anyone.
3. Jeff W. was a former manager at the Ritz Carlton, who had multiple chronic pain,
depression, fatigue, and frequent suicidal thoughts due to emotional stress. He was
dramatically improved after his first treatment. All of his symptoms were
significantly reduced with further therapy. He too would be happy to share his story.
4. Kim S. is a young educator who was featured in a Register article for being elected
teacher of the year in the Santa Ana school district. She came to me for chronic pain and
depression due to marital problems. She was much improved after her first NBE
therapy, and was able to discontinue all her medication.
She went into a deep depression the day after her treatment when her husband left her.
However, her depression lifted when she woke up the next day. She continues to improve
with further therapy. Her prognosis for a cure of all her symptoms with NBE therapy
is essentially 100% despite her current stressful situation. She would also be happy to
share her experience.
5. Kandra H. is a
young woman from an affluent famil. Her suffering from depression and multiple chronic
ailments was so great that she had considered consulting Dr. Kevorkian. Her depression and
other symptoms have been greatly improved with our treatments. She has been living symptom
free without the need of any medication.
6. Susan is a therapist who was unable to stop crying. During her initial visit with
me, she broke down sobbing every time I looked up at her. We have completely resolved her
problem.
7. Richard T. is a retired
police officer who developed severe depression after retirement. Once a humorous
individual with a zest for life, he became a mentally and physically sluggish
elderly man.
Even his wife had difficulty having a conversation with him. She said that his eyes were
dull, without spirit, and that he paced in circles all day long, or followed her as if he
was her shadow.
In addition, he lost 40 pounds in one month, and had severe insomnia that was
unresponsive to drugs, melatonin, and herbs. Treatments by many doctors over 18 months
were not successful. His wife was suspecting that he might have Alzheimers
syndrome, as his mother had died of the disease. She recognized the symptoms as her father
had also died of this ailment.
Three NBE treatments enabled Richard to sleep through the night. His mental and
physical condition was much enhanced. His speech also improved. His eyes had more spirit,
and he had regained his sense of humor a good sign of recovery from
Alzheimers.
8. Deborah W. is a 73-year-old
woman who was diagnosed with Alzheimers for three years, with symptoms of
depression, fatigue, memory loss, hearing difficulty, loss of mental acuity, and chronic
pain. She had exhausted all conventional drugs and unconventional treatments, such as
expensive hyperbaric oxygen, intravenous chelation, hormone therapy, growth hormone
injections, herbs, nutrition powders, and juices, all with no success.
Her daughter stated that NBE therapy was the only treatment that has made a difference
in her. After nine treatments, she was free of pain, had less depression and more energy,
improved in both speech and hearing, and was mentally more alert, being able to recall
both her husbands and her own age as well as their birthdays. She also regained her
sense of humor.
9. Steve B. is
successful businessman who had suffered from chronic pain for years due to multiple
cervical spine deformities. As a result, he developed chronic depression, fatigue,
allergies, lactose intolerance, immune deficiency and frequent respiratory infections.
Extensive evaluation at UCLA and Scripps Institute were unproductive. An antidepressant
prescribed by a psychiatrist at Scripps caused him to be so confused that he could not
find his way to work. He said he had often considered ending his life while driving on the
freeway.
NBE therapy completely eliminated all his problems. For the past six years, Steve has
been working 60 to 80 hours a week, commuting 1-1/2 hours from Victorville to Orange
County. He also drives the same distance to our offices in Orange County for treatment of
all his medical problems, from the common cold and sinus congestion to physical trauma.
Steve pays for his own treatment because his HMO will not.
10. Judith K. suffered
30 years of constant severe pain from a failed back surgery. She developed profound
depression, immune deficiency, frequent pneumonia, candidaiasis, and other infections. She
had tried everything: orthopedic surgeons, a second back surgery, neurologists, pain
clinics at Johns Hopkins and U.S.C., years of drugs, acupuncture, and chiropractic,
all without success.
She was "seriously planning a third suicide attempt after another afternoon of
writhing on the floor in pain" when she came upon my advertisement in your newspaper.
Her first NBE treatment drastically reduced the pain that engulfed the right side of her
body for 30 years! She left our office with her "heart soaring with hope."
After three years of periodic treatments from us, Judith has been living like a normal
person for the past five years.
I can continue with thousands of similar cases.
They are typical results
we routinely achieve for a variety of illnesses. The NBE therapy can cure these
ailments by resolving their underlying causes, thus eliminating expensive and harmful
lifelong drug and surgery therapy, and saving billions in health-care costs. It is the key
to a root-cause solution to the health care crisis. This incredulous claim can be
verified by interviewing our patients at our offices in Costa Mesa or San Clemente. Our
phone number is (714) 556-8664.
In contrast to the success of the NBE approach, modern medicine has failed to find a
cure even for one chronic disorder after a century of clinical practice and intensive
research. Hence, the discovery that all acquired chronic ailments can be cured is
unquestionably the most significant medical breakthrough of the century!
I have presented this information in two scientific meetings. It was published in one
symposium proceedings as a synopsis entitled "Chronic Disorders Are Curable
with Neuro-Bioenergetics Treatment." However, major orthodox journals are reluctant
to publish a paper I wrote on this therapy, because it does not involve drugs or
surgery
and the concept challenges current orthodoxy. We have also sent information to government
officials and the press, explaining the pivotal role of this discovery in resolving our
health care dilemma. So far no one is interested.
One reason for this lack of interest is the obsession of the media and public with
negative news. All of Dr. Kevorkians assisted suicides have made national headlines.
Stale, uninformative articles on depression, pain and other degenerative diseases, such as
arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome, are popular. Yet none has provided
any insight as to their causes or cure, except repeated false promises of a drug cure
that has not and will never materialize.
Furthermore, despite the fact that properly prescribed drugs are now the fourth leading
cause of deaths in the U.S., drug therapy for chronic disorders and the hopeless suffering
of people remain sensational news items!
On the other hand, positive stories with true cures of diseases are seldom news worthy.
I have been advertising my successful results in your newspapers. Our patients have failed
numerous times in calling the attention of the news media to this curative solution to chronic ailments. Similarly, most government officials and medical associations
have ignored the pleas by patients who had insurance payment problems despite of their
remarkable improvement.
In a letter dated September 15, 1995 to the chief editor of New England Journal of
Medicine, Judith pleaded for the publication of my paper. She wrote, "OTHER DOCTORS
NEED TO KNOW WHAT DR. TONG HAS CREATED. PUBLISH HIS ARTICLE. PLEASE. PLEASE. YOU MAY SAVE
SOMEONES LIFE AS HE DID MINE."
Indeed the life of Rob Bolinger and many others with similar problems would have been
saved by the NBE method if the public knew this information. Skeptics can verify this by
examining the case histories on my web site and thousands of similar ones at our office.
Unfortunately, most of the medical profession still places a higher priority on
protecting the status quo and personal interests than on a true cure of illnesses and
patient welfare. Until this is changed, and until our society learns to focus on positive
solutions rather than negative sensationalism, there will always be tragedies such as the
death of young Rob Bolinger.
